Who is this group?
We are a multiracial, multifaith, multigenerational anti-war campaign in New Mexico, formed to tell President Biden that we are opposed to his administration’s funding of war and genocide in Gaza. In the June 4th New Mexico Democratic Presidential primary, we are filling out the UNCOMMITTED bubble to show Biden that he must earn our vote through a dramatic change in policy.
Why is voting uncommitted important?
We’re still demonstrating our political power and discontent through thousands of votes for Uncommitted options nationwide. This allows our pro-ceasefire voices to be heard 1) by Biden as he weighs impacts on his re-election campaign, and 2) in the Democratic Party process.
In coalition with nearly two dozen other states and territories with their own uncommitted movements—including crucial swing states—we are prompting a reassessment of the Biden administration’s financing and backing of Israel’s war on Gaza.
Aren’t you afraid this will help Trump?
This is a primary where Democrats are trying to have their voices heard by the man who claims to lead OUR party. We are well aware that Trump is not our friend. There is a long time between now and November for Biden to change his policies and earn support from Democratic voters. This vote is not about Republicans. It is about sending a message to the leaders of the President and the Democratic Party.
How can Biden earn your votes?
It will be difficult for Biden to earn back our trust after financing war and famine in Gaza. He must stop funding the Israeli government’s atrocities against the Palestinian people.
President Biden has been a successful candidate in the past by representing a broad coalition, but right now he’s not representing the vast majority of Democrats who want a ceasefire and an end to our government’s unconditional weapons funding of the Israeli military.
Biden’s pro-war stance is also not representing the millions of Muslims, people of color and young people who voted in record numbers to put him in office but who are now out in the streets protesting his policies.
Is Uncommitted a confirmed option on the NM Democratic Primary Ballot?
Yes. New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver has confirmed that “uncommitted” will be an option on New Mexico’s Democratic primary ballot. If you’re already a registered Democrat, you can log in to see and download your sample ballot now at https://voterportal.servis.sos.state.nm.us/WhereToVote.aspx.
Have people voted uncommitted before?
The uncommitted movement has gained monumental support across the country this election cycle. By early March 2024, over 500,000 uncommitted votes had been cast in Democratic primaries—including in swing states like Wisconsin, where the number of uncommitted voters were more than double Biden’s critical margin of victory over Trump in 2020.
Biden’s funding of war and genocide in Gaza have alienated the very voters that Biden needs to win. The strong “uncommitted” showing in primary elections across the country are undeniable: Biden’s pro-death policies run the risk of handing a victory to Donald Trump in November’s general election.
Do you support a ceasefire?
Yes. A ceasefire is a negotiated end to violence between all parties and to release Palestinians held by Israel and Israelis held in Gaza.
What if I want to vote for a third party candidate in the general election? Does choosing a Democratic primary ballot prevent me from doing that?
No, the ballot you choose for the primaries this June has no bearing on your choices in the general election in November.
How and when do I vote?
The New Mexico Democratic primary is June 4th. We’ve compiled key dates and registration info here.
